The battle over our planet is not black and white but it is vital. In the US it's 'drill first and ask questions later' (when Rex Tillerson was heading Exxon he said “If you want to live by the precautionary principle then crawl up in a ball and live in a cave”) but in Europe we have to look rationally at options and we have to talk to each other.
lyrics
There’s a real debate – waiting in store,
If we open up – and look around
To face a view – that won’t survive like before,
Long after denier’s voices are drowned
If we’re afraid - of a choice to cut down,
To recognise - our demand’s not the rule.
To see the planet as our village and town
Then there’s only one winner in this duel
No longer hugging trees or forever saying please,
No figure will make it right, no bribe will quell the fight
This place defines us and cannot disappear
We’ve got to talk
No bigger income streams in boardrooms now,
Nothing more certain to make Governments hear,
Let’s be at the table and not crying foul,
No longer victims, not bulldozed by fear
There’ll be alliances where they’d not think to look,
Leaving divisions to one side
A fight this size can’t be by the book,
Compromise and profit can’t always collide
Faith in our invincibility ignores a power so plain to see,
No figure will make it right, no bribe will quell the fight
This place defines us and cannot disappear
We’ve got to talk
